London duo's double win at the Angel Film Awards
By Mark Kebble on December 21st 2010
London artists Wyllie O Hagan’s art film, First Darkness, picked up two prizes at its world premiere at the Angel Film Awards in Monaco. Artist film-makers Denise Wyllie and Clare O Hagan won Best Art Film and Best Original Music in the Short Film Category, in a competition that promotes non-violent films.
Wyllie O Hagan’s film First Darkness shows an artist reconnecting with life through her art after her friend dies. We see the artist emerge from a place of darkness to one of hope, creating extraordinarily beautiful artwork. The story was written, produced and directed by Wyllie O Hagan and the music that accompanies the film is an original composition by Simon Wilkinson.
“It’s really tremendous that First Darkness is a double award-winner at the Angel Film Awards,” says Clare. “It was shown alongside first-time director Sir David Jason’s multi award-winning short film, All The Way Up.” Sir David also received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Angel Film Awards. “It is great to know that our work is appreciated in the international film festival scene,” adds Denise.
London Life thinks these two are going places – which is why we have set up a blog dedicated to giving an insight into their lives: check out http://london.greatbritishlife.co.uk/community/blogs/entries/filmmakers-denise-wyllie-and-clare-o-hagan/id/319/
